| The National Institute of Fiscal Studies was established on 17th January 2008 supported by the Department of Education, Science and Culture, the Department of Tax Policy, the Department of Budget of the Ministry of Finance and the Department of Finance of Ministry of Education. The institute conducts pure and applied research on key fiscal issues in China and runs associated seminars and public events.
Based in one of China’s most prestigious higher education institutions, Tsinghua University, NIFS attempts to offer professional, independent and evidence-based recommendations for policy makers and facilitates the building of an efficient, fair and competitive fiscal system that encourages economic and social progress in China. Moreover, the institute will foster new thinking and present innovative research methods that help break new ground in this area. While learning from international experience, the institute will also summarize Chinese experience in the field and make contributions to the development of fiscal system in developing countries.
